Upcycled

imageKind of strange to say but I originally wore this skirt when I was a freshman in high school, I graduated 10 years ago! The reason I kept this skirt is because I love the fit so much. My advice is to keep anything you absolutely love the fit of because you’ll love it again when it comes back in style and simple updates to it can make it seem new again.  Originally, this skirt flared out at the bottom, but to give it an update I made the bottom slimmer for more of a pencil skirt silhouette.

I went to school for fashion merchandising and there was a big emphasis on the idea of up cycling and being environmentally friendly in many of my courses. I really believe in altering things you already have to create something new instead of going out and buying new things all the time.

I’ve included a before picture of the skirt!

Basics

IMG_9395

Lately I’ve really been on the hunt for some good basics.  Things that I can mix and match and make tons of different outfit combinations.  These are some of my recent finds that I put together, but I can’t wait to style them with other pieces as well!

You really can’t go wrong with a nude strappy sandal.  They can be worn with almost anything and any color combination without adding too much.

Distressed jeans are super popular, but believe it or not, this is my first pair.  I just never really liked them, but I’m starting to realize that just that small detail can add a little more interest to an outfit, especially if they’re paired with just a simple tee, and I’m really enjoying them!

I think a nice black tank top is an essential in any woman’s wardrobe because it can be so versatile.  It can be dressed down with a pair of jeans, or dressed up with a pretty skirt.  I especially love the fit of this one because it’s a little loose and the v-neck is low, but not too low.  What I also really love about this top is that it’s reversible (the other side is a dark gray).  This is really going to come in handy for some upcoming traveling because it can be worn day or night and it’s basically two shirts in one!

I love the idea of mixing casual pieces with things that are a little more dressy.  It can make an outfit more interesting and be a little unexpected.  I normally would have worn this outfit with some cute sandals or heels, but sometimes that just isn’t practical when you’re walking around the city.

These are my favorite pair of sneakers.  Nike Free Runs are so comfortable and they come in so many colors and patterns, you’re sure to find a pair you love!  I have two pairs, but I reserve these fun leopard print ones for every day use, and my more colorful ones for the gym.  I love that from afar these look like basic black sneakers, but up closer you can see the faint leopard print.

When I’m wearing an outfit with not much color, I love to add a bold color on my lips.  This one here is ColourPop Ultra Matte Lip in Succulent.  I highly recommend this long wear formula and I love the bright red-orange hue of this one specifically!

Hope you’re having a great day!

Casual Chic

IMG_8922

Nothing’s easier than denim shorts in the summer.  They’re so easy to just throw on and look good with anything.  To dress my favorite pair up, I styled them with a light-weight button-up top and heeled sandals.  This top is just as easy to throw on as a t-shirt, but it’s so much more chic, in my opinion.  To finish it off, I added my favorite bag and sunnies!
